The Sportscraft Team of Playoff Week 7 is the Scotiabank Puffins! It is only fitting that we recognize the AAA Puffins for their historic feat this past Sunday night when they became the first all-female team ever to win a metro minor hockey league title. The girls held off a powerful Northeast Eagles in Game 4 of the U13B final series with a thrilling 1-0 victory before at large crowd at Jack Byrne Arena to capture gold. Charlie Costello scored the lone goal with help from Aleah Costello, while Madeline Brodeur earned a shutout in the Puffins cage.
The League title capped off a very successful season for the Puffins: bronze in the AAA division at the SEDMHA Tournament in Halifax and AAA gold at the Sweetheart Tournament in Charlottetown.
The players and team staff, and the parents created not just a solid team that turned a lot of heads and drew a lot of followers this season, but they created a brand that is as unique as their logo. Thier brand promoted a team culture of being highly competitive together but still having a lot of fun along the way. The future is bright for these players and the DJHL has been proud to be a part of it and to watch them fly.
